PODCAST of the WEEK #3

Podcasts have contributed more to my intellectual live in recent years than anything else I can think of. I’m a self-confessed ‘podcast nerd,’ and I’m not ashamed of it. Sharing podcasts with friends, colleagues, and family members and having conversations about them is one of my greatest joys in life, so I’m endeavoring to share at least one each week here! I’d love to hear from all of you about shows and episodes you love!

VeloNews Tech Podcast: Ride Inside riders get you geared up for indoor riding

There’s a lot of great content to dig into within the VN Tech Pod’s archive, but the one that is particularly relevant at this particular moment - fall - given winter is approaching fast, and virtual riding and racing saw a MASSIVE boost in participation through the early months of the coronavirus pandemic.

This pod isn’t really about personalities and personal stories, but cycling technology. The Ride Inside conversation is worth a listen in particular, as it’s probably the first time I’ve heard the topic of ‘economy’ in the context of riding indoors. I’ve been using a Kurt Kinetic Rock-n-Roll trainer for years, and a big part of what I’ve liked about it is how much more natural it feels compared to a stable stationary trainer. There are other trainers, rollers, and platforms out now that mimic the dynamics of riding outside while indoors, which not only help increase the enjoyment of the riding, but also help retain or even build pedaling economy. Lots of insight in here riders can work with, regardless of how much budget they have to throw at indoor riding.
