REGISTRATION IS CLOSED!
The Ride of the Damned raudax is a unique cycling event that celebrates its 10th Anniversary on Sunday, June 3, 2018. Born out of the desire to share interesting and challenging routes off the beaten track, the RotD has grown into a must-ride event for scores of Ottawa-Gatineau cyclists. With an emphasis on challenge and adventure, rather than competition, the RotD takes teams of 4-6 riders north of Ottawa, over rolling hills and through rural Quebec communities, covering paved and dirt roads far from traffic and the trappings of big-city life.
The Ride of the Damned is a party ride! An audacious party ride! Its a RAUDAX!
The Ride of the Damned raudax is open to teams of 4-6 riders. This helps ensure riders are not left alone out on the rugged route. Two route options are on offer: 120k, 180k.
These are the FINAL route files:
The Ride of the Damned will start and finish at Euro-Sports, 13 Bullman St., Ottawa. The shop has parking and two portable toilets will be on-site. A large party tent will protect us from the elements.
The two routes are minimally supported by follow cars, and NOT MARKED. Riders navigate via GPS and provided cue sheets. This is a feature of the event, not an oversight.
VeloFix will provide emergency mechanical support, but coverage will be spotty across the 180km of road covered. Riders are all expected to be self-sufficient, and to help their team-mates with issues. Food and water will be provided at the Low checkpoint, mid-way on the 180k route. Pipolinka is providing their fabulous bagels!
The crux of the 180km route is the Paughan hydroelectric Dam (the event’s namesake), close to Low, QC. This monolithic structure punctuates a series of ascending dirt roads, and provides a spectacular view of the Gatineau River. Beyond this spectacle, riders travel along beautiful lakes and farm fields before descending to Wakefield, QC, where the obligatory stop at the Pipolinka Bakery is made. Approximately 80km of this route is on dirt roads.
Food and water will be provided at the Low checkpoint, at approximately the 103km mark on the 180km route, preceded by a depanneaur at 75k. Pipolinka is providing their fabulous bagels for the Low checkpoint! The 120k route will pass through Wakefield twice, at 40 and 80k, which will provide opportunity to stop at Pipolinka and/or other bakeries/cafes/deps in town for supplies, as required.
120km riders ride the classic ‘Green Bridge Loop,’ a gem that features the Wakefield Covered bridge and the Green Bridge north of Wakefield. Approximately 30km of this route is on dirt roads. Riders will pass through Wakefield twice: at 40k and 80k. All riders return to Ottawa on their own steam along the Gatineau River, and through Old Chelsea, QC.
Online registration closed Wednesday May 30 @ midnight.
A cycling license is NOT required for participation in the Ride of the Damned.
Price of entry is $60/rider for 180km and $55/rider for 120km. CCN’s transaction fee will be added.
Your entry includes your meal, but not beer.
Each rider’s meal is included in their entry; please don’t buy an extra meal ticket for yourself. If you’d like to invite guests to join everyone after the ride, you can purchase extra meal tickets ONLINE ONLY up until the close of registration for $17. The meal will be catered by Whole Foods, who did a fantastic job for us in 2015, 2016, 2017. Omnivores through vegans will be served excellent meals, as always!
